We provide information, technology and risk management services in six areas:

Cyber and Technology risk

Cyber security is a growing concern for more and more organisations. First August helps its clients balance the increasingly real cyber security threat against some of the media ‘hype’. Examples of some of the work we have delivered in this area include:

  • Creating a risk based information security automation strategy for a financial services market infrastructure organisation.
  • Developing a Data Loss Prevention (DLP) strategy for a global financial services client.
  • Acting as the independent external information security advisor for one of the UK’s largest independent investment managers.
  • Developing a cyber risk evaluation tool in conjunction with Edinburgh Napier University.

We distinguish ourselves by integrating pragmatic security and IT risk measures that provide short-term benefits, into cohesive, and long lasting, security and technology strategies. We help make sure that our clients have controls that focus on their particular top risks – one size does not fit all.

“No matter how strong your defences, there is always a risk of breaches, as the waves breaking over the dry side of this wall illustrate”

In addition to his work at First August Andrew previously led assignments at PwC. Many of those engagements assessed technology and information security risks and developed pragmatic solutions to address them. Much of this work was for global financial services companies, but Andrew also led information security work for a large UK government department.

Andrew has also delivered a number of lectures as part of the Royal Holloway College’s Information Security MSc.
